"THE GREATEST INVENTION IN THE WORLD IS THE MIND OF A CHILD."THOMAS EDDISON
OUR VISION
At Westbury Park, we hope to ignite a spark inside every child through Design and Technology. Whether that be through cooking experiences, mechanics and robotics, textiles or woodwork, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore, create and invent, all the while learning new skills and being encouraged to think outside the box!
INTENT
We aim to encourage creativity, innovation and challenge through our DT curriculum. Children have opportunities to plan, create and evaluate their ideas, considering how their creations can impact the world around them.
IMPLEMENTATION
DT is split into blocks at Westbury Park, with each year group spending three of the six terms embracing the subject. As Design & Technology and Art & Design work hand in hand, the scheme 'Kapow' is used for both, ensuring coverage of the curriculum and skill progression across the school.
Children review prior learning and try new skills in their lessons, all the while considering the purpose of their creation and how to meet a brief most effectively.
Across the school, children engage in all stages of the DT process: research, planning, practically creating and evaluating.

IMPACT
Children will be willing risk takers and understand that when something goes wrong within a process, that is to be welcomed and learnt from. Through D&T, children will be able to make links between their learning, for example appreciating and understanding how mathematical calculations can be used within this subject.
